Kein Windows 10 für RT

Das hat mich nun doch etwas überrascht. In meinem Blog-Eintrag von gestern hatte ich mich noch zuversichtlich geäußert, dass es ein Update für Windows RT Geräte auf Windows 10 geben wird. Auf der Webseite von Microsoft wird das aber im Moment ausgeschlossen. Die Aussage von Terry Myerson hatte also ein Stückchen falsch interpretierte Wahrheit drin.

“Microsoft is working on an update for Windows RT but hasn’t worked out all the Details” hört sich etwas anders an als es auf der Microsoft Internetseite zu Windows 10 steht. Dort wird das kostenfreie Upgrade auf Windows 10 beworben. Leicht überliest man dabei, dass es für qualifizierte Geräte kostenfrei ist. Liest man aber in der kleingedruckten Fußnote, was ein “Qualified Device” ist, stellt man fest, dass die RT basierten Tablets nicht dazugehören.

sowie die Fußnote die als Link auf “qualified” liegt und am Ende des Satzes mit eine * gekennzeichnet ist:

Klar, für die Firmenkunden gibt es andere Lizenzvereinbarungen, daher sind die Versionen auch ausgenommen. Aber der Ausschluss von Windows RT hat mich schon überrascht. Ich bin gespannt, wie es an der Front weitergehen wird. Ich hoffe nicht, dass die RT-Reihe komplett eingestellt wird und das Surface RT und das Surface 2 nicht mehr aktualisiert oder weiterentwickelt wird.
